An LGBTQ+ wedding video captured by an LGBTQ+ wedding videographer in Oakham, by Rutland Water.

In July 2025, on the hottest day of the year, I had the absolute joy to film Laura and Danielle’s gorgeous big gay wedding at Normanton Church, with preparations at the nearby Normanton Park Gardens, a beautiful quirky accommodation and prep venue a short walk away. I can honestly say it was an absolute privilege to film their wonderful LGBTQ+ wedding for them, the queer joy was everywhere! As an LGBTQ+ wedding videographer myself, I just loved it and felt right at home.

After the wedding, I chatted to these lovely newlyweds to get their insight into planning an LGBTQ+ wedding, what they learnt and the choices they made to have the best day ever - which they absolutely did!

How would you describe your wedding?

Bright, joyful, and full of love!

Did you have a theme?

Yes – hot pink and bright orange. A bold summer combination that felt fun, vibrant, and very us!

Why did you choose your venue?

Early in our relationship, Danielle took me to Rutland Water for a date. The moment I saw Normanton Church, I turned to her and said, “I’m going to get married here one day.” (Luckily, it didn’t scare her away!) We both fell in love with the place. Later, when we discovered the stunning celestial view, we knew it had to be part of our wedding day.

We were able to rent the house and cottages nearby for our wedding party, which made it even more special. For the reception, we chose Normanton Park Hotel – the food and service were fantastic, and the location couldn’t have been more perfect. Everything was within walking distance, which made it an easy decision.

Outfits – What did you choose and why?

Laura: I wore an off-the-shoulder dress with a long, dramatic beautiful train and delicate floral detailing. I loved how it fitted me, and the train was exactly what I’d always dreamed of.

Danielle: I wore a lace blazer and trousers with personalised white Vans. I don’t wear dresses but still wanted something feminine, and this outfit was the perfect balance.

What about your ‘I do’ crew?

Our theme colours were hot pink and orange, so the bridesmaids wore orange dresses. Our Maid of Honour (who has pink hair!) wore a pink dress, of course. The groomsmen, best man, dads, and grandads all wore beige trousers, white shirts, and brown shoes, with either pink or orange braces and bow ties to tie in with the theme.

What accessories and shoes did you wear?

Laura: Crocs! They’re my go-to, super comfortable, and much more practical than heels (especially since Danielle is a little shorter than me!).
Danielle: High-platform personalised Vans – they said Mrs. Jordan and had our wedding date on them.

What advice would you give other LGBTQ+ couples planning their wedding?

Be unapologetically you. Be bold, be loud, and enjoy every single moment of the planning.

Is there anything you would have changed?

The weather was very hot – beautiful, but maybe a few degrees cooler would have been perfect!

What do you remember most from your wedding day?

Walking down the aisle, catching my train on a lantern – it made everyone laugh and broke the ice straight away.
Hearing everyone sing in the church while Deanne Dexter performed beautifully.

Did anything funny or unusual happen?

Yes! My long train caught on a lantern during the entrance, which made Danielle laugh and cry at the same time.
We both stumbled over a few words in our vows, which added a lighthearted, genuine touch to the moment.

Thoughts on your wedding films?

We absolutely loved it. It captured our day perfectly and feels so special to watch back.

What was your favourite part of the films?

The moments where Danielle and I are laughing and being silly together – they feel so natural and really capture us.

Would you recommend Laura Baker Productions to others?

Absolutely. Being LGBTQ+ friendly was a huge bonus and made us feel so comfortable. Laura was easygoing, approachable, and captured the day beautifully. We couldn’t thank her enough. Plus, it was lovely to meet her wife too!

Looking for an LGBTQ+ wedding videographer in Leicestershire and Rutland?

I am an out and proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, and simply love filming and creating LGBTQ+ wedding films for other LGBTQ+ couples! Having got married to my lovely wife back in 2022, I know how important it is to have LGBTQ+ wedding suppliers attend your wedding day. Not only do we provide a safe space to be your true authentic queer selves, but we also truly celebrate you and your relationship in all its wonderful uniqueness. We don’t just want to be accepted or tolerated, we want more than that!

I have always set out to find out about all of my couples, regardless of gender or sexuality, without making any assumptions about what the day might look like too. Its YOUR day, so you can celebrate how you want to, be who you want to and wear what you want to, without fear of judgment.

I will not accidentally call you by the wrong pronouns, and I will not have a form where you are forced to fill in the bride or groom box - because it’s 2025 and we are so over that right now !

Refreshing isn’t it?
